英語訳の試みにあたって

屈辱と混迷の戦後80年。
混沌と抗争、戦乱の時代にあって、今ほど国境を越えた民衆同士の対話と相互理解が求められている時もないのではないか――。
昨今の自動翻訳機能の著しい発達を受け、長編連載「いのち輝く共生※１ の大地 ―私たちがめざす未来社会―」（小貫雅男・伊藤恵子、2024年９月１日～2025年３月14日 当ホームページに連載）の終了を機に、その英訳作成に取り組むことにしました。
まず手はじめに、予めこの長編連載の全体像を把握していただくために、下記Ⅰ～Ⅲの英語訳を試み、近く、本ホームページに３回にわたって掲載していきます。

ゆくゆくは長編連載全文を英訳し、2026年早春より、各章を順次、掲載していければと思っています。
これまで長い間、ややもすれば日本語ゆえの言葉の壁に阻まれ、閉ざされてきた世界の人々へつながる扉が、英語訳の試みをきっかけに、開かれてゆけばと願っています。
同時に、日本語を母語とする私たち自身にとっても、英語試訳と日本語原文との丁寧な対照・比較検討作業を通して、用語とその意を再吟味するとともに、この長編連載で提起してきた21世紀“生命系の未来社会論”具現化の道としての「菜園家族」※２ 未来社会構想の内実の考察をよりいっそう深め、対話と議論を促す契機になればと思っています。
このたびの英語訳は、あくまでもGoogle翻訳による自動翻訳をベースに、若干の修正を加えた仮訳にすぎません。
今後、読者のみなさんからのご教示を得て、生身の人間の心が通った、より良い訳文に練り上げてゆければと願っています。
こうした人々の地道な努力による「自然（じねん）」の輪のつながりの中で、やがては中・長期展望のもとに、韓国・朝鮮語、中国語、ドイツ語、フランス語、イタリア語、スペイン語、ポーランド語、ロシア語、ウクライナ語、モンゴル語、ベトナム語、ヒンディー語、アラビア語、スワヒリ語･･･等々、苦行と言うよりも、むしろ楽しい創造性豊かな長きにわたる旅路となって、各国、各地域の言語への翻訳に広がってゆけばと、夢は尽きません。
遠く過去を振り返ると、実に長きにわたる「主権不在民」の悲しむべき不幸な人類史が、未解決のまま延々と横たわっている。
21世紀の今日においてもなお、圧倒的多数の民衆から乖離した一握りの権力的為政者たちに主導され、牛耳られる“国民”僭称の欺瞞に充ち満ちた屈辱の「外交」。
これとは毅然と対峙する長い苦難の道のりになるが、同時代の苦悩を背負った世界の人々自身が、その実態の本質を見抜き、目覚め、相互に意見を交わし、理解を深める、そんなまことの民衆連帯の時代の到来が待たれるのです。
そのたゆまぬ人間的営為こそが、たとえささやかであっても、21世紀の未来を切り開く原動力になるにちがいありません。
こうした思いを共有し、英語をはじめ各言語への翻訳に知恵を絞る、いわばユニークな翻訳ワーキンググループ「じねんネット」の誕生とその成長に、希望をつなげていきたいと思います。
仕掛けられたひとときの熱狂の背後には
きっと狡猾、巨大な悪魔が潜んでいる。
これ以上、騙されてはならない。
ここで一旦、立ち止まり
遥か彼方の地平に目を遣り
じっくり、とことん考え抜いていきたい。
※１「共生」（symbiosis）とは、もともと生物学上の用語であるが、その肯定的側面の内実の萌芽は、やがて人間社会における未来への明るい可能性を秘めた十全な「共生」へと転化していくであろう。この長編連載では、こうした意味合いで、自然界における原初的「共生」の未来への可能性の確信のもとに、この用語を援用することにする。
それを可能にする要因として考えられるのは、本連載の本文第３章および第11章２節で取り上げた、ヒト特有の原初的「共感能力」（慈しむ心）との人類史上、長きにわたる葛藤によるものと見るべきであろう。
※２「菜園家族」とは、根なし草同然の賃金労働者と生産手段（生きるに必要な最小限度の農地・生産用具・家屋など）との「再結合」による、近代と前近代の「労」「農」人格一体融合の抗市場免疫に優れた、21世紀における新たな人間の基礎的社会的生存形態。これを基軸に、古い社会（資本主義）は、その深部から根源的な変革の時代へと着実に移行していく。

On the attempt to translate the long-running series
“The Earth of Symbiosis Where All Lives Shine” into English

80 years of post-war history filled with humiliation and confusion.
In times of turmoil, conflict and maelstrom of war, perhaps there has never been a greater need for dialogue and mutual understanding between people across borders.
Given the recent remarkable progress in machine translation technology, we have decided to take the opportunity of completing the long-running series, “The Earth of Symbiosis*1 Where All Lives Shine — The Future Society We Aim for —” (written by Masao ONUKI & Keiko ITO, serialized on this website from September 1, 2024 to March 14, 2025), to begin creating an English translation.
To begin with, in order to help you to grasp the overall picture of this long-running series in advance, we are currently trying to translate the following I – III into English, and will soon be posting them in three installments on this website.
Ⅰ. The main parts of “In Lieu of a General Summary”
Ⅱ. “The Interrelation between the ‘Garden Family’ Vision for a Future Society and the Constitution of Japan”
Ⅲ. “The Complete Table of Contents”
Each installment will include both the original Japanese text and a tentative English translation.
We hope to eventually translate the entire series into English, and then start posting each chapter in turn from early spring 2026.
It is our hope that this attempt at an English translation will open a door to people around the world that has been somewhat closed off for so long due to the language barrier of the Japanese language.
At the same time, we hope that this will also serve as an opportunity for us, as native Japanese speakers, to re-examine the terminology and its meaning by carefully comparing the tentative English translation with the original Japanese text, to further consider the substance of the “Garden Family”*2 vision for a future society proposed in this long series as a way to realize the 21st century “future society theory based on living systems,” and to encourage dialogue and discussion.
The English translation this time is merely a provisional translation based on the automatic translation by Google Translate, with some minor revisions.
Hereafter, we hope to refine it into an even better translation that speaks to the heart of a real human being, with the help of input from readers.
It is our endless dream that, through the steady efforts of these people connected by “Jinen (naturalness) Network,” translations will eventually, with a medium to long-term perspective, expand into the languages of each country and region including Korean, Chinese, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Polish, Russian, Ukrainian, Mongolian, Vietnamese, Hindi, Arabic, Swahili, etc., and more, in a long, enjoyable, creative journey rather than an arduous one.
If we look back into the distant past, we find a truly long stretch of sad and unfortunate history of humanity as the “people without sovereignty,” remaining unresolved.
Even today, in the 21st century, “diplomacy” is full of deceit and humiliation, led and controlled by a handful of powerful rulers who pretend to be “the people,” despite the fact that they are estranged from the overwhelming majority of the people.
It will be a long and difficult journey to confront this situation resolutely, but we await the arrival of an era of true solidarity among the people, in which the people of the world, who bear the suffering of our times, will themselves see through the true nature of the situation, awaken, exchange opinions with each other, and deepen their understanding.
Such tireless human efforts, however small, will surely become the driving force that opens up the future of the 21st century.
We hope to see the birth and growth of a unique translation working group called “Jinen Network,” which shares these thoughts and puts all its efforts into translating into various languages, including English.
Behind the momentary frenzy that has been engineered,
cunning, great Evil is surely lurking.
Don’t be fooled any further.
Now is the time to stop for a moment,
look out into the distant horizon,
and think things through carefully and thoroughly.
*1 “Symbiosis” is originally a biological term, but the seeds of its positive aspects will eventually transform into a complete “symbiosis” that holds bright possibilities for the future of human society. In our long-running series, we will use this term in this sense, based on our conviction that the primordial “symbiosis” in nature has potential for the future.
One factor that could make this possible is the long-standing conflict throughout human history with the primordial “ability to empathize” (compassion) unique to humans, which was discussed in Chapter 3 and Chapter 11, Section 2 of the main text of this series.
*2 The “garden family” is defined as a new basic form of human social existence in the 21st century with excellent anti-market immunity, resulting from the “re-combination” of rootless wage laborers with the means of production (the minimum amount of farmland, production tools, housing, etc. necessary to survive), that integrates and fuses modern and pre-modern “labor” and “farmer” personalities. The formation of these families will serve as the mainspring for the old society (capitalism) to steadily move into an era of profound and fundamental change from its depths.
